The earlier you contact us in your grant development process, the more support we can provide. Meeting with our team early allows us to offer tailored suggestions, strategic recommendations, and links to key resources to help you plan and develop a strong, competitive proposal. We provide consultations for a range of training grants, including T32s, TL1s, R25s, and K12s.

Please begin preparing well in advance, ideally 12 months before submission. Unlike research grants, training grants are complex programs that require substantial planning, including data collection, development of training tables, and background research.

To make the most of your personalized consultation, please have the following information before we meet with you:

  1. The PA-##-###, RFA-XX-##-### or PAR-##-### for the training grant.
  2. The number of training slots anticipated.
  3. The focus area for research training and level of training (predoc, postdoc, resident, or combination of these levels per the PA/PAR announcement).
  4. Your preliminary list of participating faculty for the grant.
  5. As with an R01, think about your desired list of “Specific Aims” for training that can differentiate the proposal from others already here or funded by the sponsor.

Even if you don’t have all these or don’t need a full consultation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for any questions you might have at https://rhtraininggrants.rutgers.edu/contact

If you’re new to training grants, NIH has a podcast series with a two-part overview of training grants (February 2024; available on Apple podcasts).
